Beograd... so yeah.. we got lost..twice
Croatian rest stop to Beograd, Serbia to Romania somewhere.
We were rudely woken by other cars stopping and loud bantering, and piled into the car towards the Beograd, Serbia.
Beograd was very eerie, even in the middle of a work day. EERIE. Like super eerie.. I can’t imagine what it would’ve been like at night. But there was a hidden beauty in the midst of it with bombed out buildings smack down in the middle of ornate modern buildings in the center of the city. The bombed out buildings remain untouched since whenever it was bombed in the early 1920s with military guards in front of each blown out building.
Then we did the Beograd 500. 500 being the level of our blood pressure trying to exit the city. We somehow were trying to get out of the city and ended up making two circles inside the city passing by the exact spot we turned out to get on the main road. The signage in the city are not the best. If you are wondering why we get lost so much, its because we only have very general map of all of europe without any city maps. In between cities we are excellent… for the most part… but once we enter into a big city… we have no idea where to go….
Anyways we blasted through the rest of Serbia after getting lost in Beograd and headed to the Romanian border. At the border we met a friendly Holland border agent helping the Romanians get used to the EU protocol or something like that. He joked with us and told us of all the other rallies that came through the border before us. It made the border experience much smoother and less on edge for all of us entering into the unknowns of Romania.
Just past the border, a shared cigarette with the Romanian Duty Free lady uncovered the sights to see in Romania with foods to eat and places to see. Foods: Saemale, mick. Places: Sighisoara, Transylvania & Constanta Mamaia in the Black sea coast line.
We drove through Romania towards Sibiu and ended up camping in a downpour on the side of this gravel road off the highway in some farmland where we actually cooked our first meal of rice, beans, hotdogs with a dash of chili powder. Definitely missing something... But we will have many more meals to perfect our eateries.
